Your voice never leaves your Mac

Most voice assistants record everything you say and send it to the cloud. Yaps is different. All speech processing happens on your Mac — no cloud, no data transmission, no accounts required for core features. Your voice data belongs to you.

How your voice stays private

A visual walkthrough of how Yaps processes speech without any cloud involvement.

Cloud dictation vs Yaps

See the difference. Cloud tools send your voice through third-party servers. Yaps processes everything on your Mac.

Voice data is uniquely sensitive

Your voice is a biometric identifier — it reveals your identity, mood, health, and even your location
Cloud voice assistants record, transmit, and store your audio on servers you don't control
Data breaches exposed 276 million healthcare records in 2024 alone — voice data is just as vulnerable
Terms of service often allow companies to use your voice recordings for training AI models
Voice recordings can be subpoenaed, hacked, or leaked — once uploaded, you lose control
Even 'anonymous' voice data can be re-identified using voiceprint analysis

Yaps keeps it on your device

Yaps processes all speech using on-device ML models — your audio never touches a network
No cloud servers, no cloud storage, no cloud anything. The processing pipeline is entirely local
Your voice data can't be breached if it was never uploaded. Zero transmission means zero exposure
Yaps doesn't collect, store, or use your voice data for any purpose beyond your immediate use
No recordings exist on any server. Your dictation history stays on your Mac, under your control
No voiceprint is ever created or transmitted. Your biometric data stays on your device

Privacy by architecture, not policy

There's a difference between 'we promise not to look' and 'we can't look.' Yaps is built on the latter.

On-Device ML Models

Speech recognition models run directly on your Mac's hardware. Audio is processed in memory, transcribed to text, and the audio buffer is immediately discarded. Nothing is saved, nothing is sent.

No Cloud Infrastructure

There are no Yaps servers processing your voice. No API calls, no audio uploads, no cloud fallback. The application is entirely self-contained on your Mac.

No Account Required

Core features work without any account or sign-in. No email, no profile, no tracking. You can use Yaps without telling us who you are.

No Telemetry on Voice Data

Yaps doesn't collect analytics on what you say, how you say it, or when you use dictation. Your usage patterns are your business, not ours.

Local History, Local Storage

Your dictation history and voice notes are stored locally on your Mac. They're accessible only to you, protected by your macOS file permissions and encryption.

No Voiceprint Collection

Yaps never creates, stores, or transmits a voiceprint. Your biometric voice data is never used for identification, training, or any other purpose.

Who needs private voice tools?

If your work involves sensitive information, privacy isn't optional.

01

Healthcare

Patient notes, diagnoses, and medical records are protected by HIPAA. Dictating them through a cloud service creates unnecessary compliance risk. Yaps keeps everything local.

02

Legal Professionals

Attorney-client privilege extends to your tools. Case notes, depositions, and client communications dictated through Yaps never leave your device.

03

Financial Services

Client financial data, trade notes, and compliance documentation deserve the same protection as your vault. Local processing means no third-party data exposure.

04

Government and Defense

Classified and sensitive government work requires air-gapped tools. Yaps works offline with zero network dependencies — ideal for secure environments.

05

Journalists

Source protection is critical. Dictated notes about sources, whistleblowers, and sensitive stories stay on your Mac — no cloud trail, no subpoena surface.

06

Privacy-Conscious Individuals

You shouldn't need a professional reason to want privacy. If you simply don't want your voice recorded and sent to a server, Yaps respects that.

Hear from people like you.

I'm a therapist, and I dictate session notes after every appointment. The idea of that audio going to some cloud server was always uncomfortable. With Yaps, I know for certain that nothing leaves my laptop. It's exactly the kind of tool healthcare needs.
