At Yaps, privacy is not a feature — it is the foundation. We built Yaps to be local-first because we believe your voice, your words, and your thoughts belong to you.

Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide and improve our service:

  • Account information: Email address and name when you create an account.
  • Subscription and billing metadata: Plan, status, renewal dates, and billing identifiers required to manage paid plans.
  • Usage metadata: Feature usage counters and related telemetry needed to enforce plan limits, protect against abuse, and improve reliability.
  • Crash reports: Technical diagnostic data sent only when you opt in, to help us fix bugs.

Voice Data and Processing

Local Processing (Default)

Core workflows can run on your device using local models and platform capabilities. When local processing is used, audio stays on your Mac.

Cloud Processing (Optional)

Some premium voices and advanced features use cloud processing. When enabled, required request data is sent to trusted providers over encrypted connections to complete that feature. You can switch between local and cloud-capable options in Settings.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the Yaps service.
  • To authenticate accounts and manage signed-in sessions.
  • To process your subscription and billing.
  • To send important service updates (you can opt out of marketing emails).
  • To enforce plan limits and improve product reliability.

Third-Party Services

We work with a limited number of trusted partners:

  • Payment processing: Stripe handles all payment data. We never see or store your full credit card number.
  • Analytics: We use privacy-focused analytics that do not include your raw voice recordings or dictated content.
  • Cloud speech (optional): When enabled, audio is sent to our speech processing partner over encrypted connections.

Cookies

Our website uses only essential cookies required for the site to function. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for full details.

Data Retention

We retain account and subscription data while your account is active. Operational and usage records are retained as needed for billing, security, support, and legal obligations. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data within 30 days unless we are required to keep specific records by law.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under GDPR, CCPA, or similar legislation:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes.

Children's Privacy

Yaps is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.
